Fury 06A has strong showing at U17A Nationals in Montreal, Quebec!

Coach Ryan: "Quite the season for the Cloverdale Fury 2006A team, having traveled to Arizona, California, and Washington in the US for tournaments this year before returning home to play in their first ever Canada Cup (2nd place) and ramping up for Provincials with a hope of qualifying for Canadians. As the younger team in U17A the journey has been challenging, but they persevered to meet their goal of qualifying for a national championship and proudly represented Cloverdale and the British Columbia at the 2022 U17A Canadian Championship in Montreal, QC Aug 17-21.

The team had battled injuries throughout the year and seemed poised to get healthy at the right time, before running into some challenges again coming in preparation for the championship. Despite that, and with several key additions to the roster for Provincials and the Canadian Championship, the team would compete hard throughout the week finishing 1st overall in their pool of 6 teams from across Canada. All 4 of the 1st place teams through pool play were from BC and 5 BC teams would advance to the Top 8 Championship Round from what was a 24-team field. The team reeled off three impressive wins over top 10 competition along the way to secure their spot in the top 8 led by some great pitching efforts including two shutout wins supported by stellar defensive plays to close the deal. Despite their efforts and a willingness to overcome adversity time and again throughout the season and this week in particular, the team couldn’t hold off the 4th place team from Whitby in a tough 3-1 loss to put an end to the tournament for Cloverdale.

At the start of the season the team committed to making a run at a Canadian Championship berth, given they had missed the previous two opportunities to compete on the national stage due to COVID. It was not, however, expected that with all the injuries and challenges the team faced that they would fight their way into contention and hang with the top teams in the country to finish 5th overall in their first appearance.

Cloverdale Fury 2006A would like to thank the HOST Softball Quebec and Équipe Québec for putting on a very memorable event and congratulate the GOLD medal winning team Langford Lighting 05 on an incredible run.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families and a huge thank you to our supporters and team sponsors in helping us earn the right to compete and enable us to deliver on our team commitment."

Congrats to the players and coaches on their strong showing at their first Nationals as a younger aged team in U17A!

Great showing for BC softball having 2 BC teams making it to the final game and battling for Gold & Silver, as well as 5 teams placing in the top 10.
