CMSA Playdowns Rules

Both teams are responsible for setting up the diamond before each of their games. Teams playing the first game Friday evening and Saturday morning must have the field raked and lined at least 15 minutes before the scheduled game time.

Both teams playing the last game of the day are responsible for putting bases away, and raking the holes at bases, pitcher's position and home plate.

Please make sure that the equipment boxes are locked! All teams leaving the dugouts must pick up their garbage before they leave!

Rules follow those of the Canadian Amateur Softball Association, and the BC Amateur Softball Association.

1. A double knockout format will be used.

2. Umpires will be provided.

3. Home team will be decided by a coin toss.

4. Both teams are responsible for preparing and cleaning up diamonds for every game.

5. Teams playing the last game of the day are responsible for putting all equipment away and preparing the diamond for the next day.

6. No Protest tournament.

7. Maximum of 5 runs per inning, except 7th inning in final and "if necessary" games.  Seventh inning to be open for those games only. Exception is Mite division, where maximum of 4 runs per inning, and no open innings.

8. No pitching restrictions.

9. No new inning to start after 75 minutes. Game starts when defensive team takes the field. The new inning is deemed to start immediately upon the third out being called on the home team.

10. The game will be called when the winner is known either by mercy or by time expiring and a team being unable to catch up on runs.

11. In case of a tie after 7 innings, or time has expired, the game will be decided by: using the international tie breaker rule. (A runner starts first half inning at 2nd base, zero outs.)

12. Rotational batting will be used.

13. All players must play a minimum of two innings per game in a defensive position. (Under three innings in a game, this rule waived.)

14. The mercy rule will be used - 10 runs after 3 innings, 8 runs after 4 innings, 7 runs after 5 innings.

15. Division specific rules as per SBBC.  Infield fly will be used for Squirt and up.  Drop third strike for Peewee and up.

16. No infield warm up, except for pitchers pitching into dugouts or up the lines.

17. The home team scorekeeper is the official scorekeeper. Scorekeepers must sit together and note the time the game starts, as stated by the Umpire, on the game score sheet. Winning team is responsible for reporting the final score to the coordinator (Shelly Gardiner or Jim Ullock).

18. A game will be considered a forfeit and loss if the team is not ready to play at scheduled game time. No grace period will be given. Teams may play with 8 players and the 9th batter is NOT considered an out. Except in the case of going to 8 batters due to an ejection.

Final Games

All rules as above except no time limit, 7 innings will be in effect, and if the game is tied after 7 innings, the international tiebreaker rule will be used to break the tie. Exception is Mite division, where a maximum of 5 innings will be played, there will be a 4 run limit per inning, however the 5th inning will be open. Final games are considered to be championship and "if necessary" games.
